Directions

2. Next, crack an egg into the blender.

4. Blend everything up into a very smooth, soft and lump-free mixture.
5. Transfer the mixture into a clean storage jar.

Avocado is a great source of biotin. This buttery fruit will moisturize, repair, and strengthen your hair. Minerals, fatty acids and vitamins found in avocado can help seal hair cuticle cells, which can prevent hair strands from easily breaking.

Mayonnaise contains two main ingredients: egg and vegetable oil. The high amount of protein in eggs helps strengthen and thicken hair follicles. Vegetable oil (canola or otherwise) increases hair softness, hydration & strength.

Coconut oil coats the hair strands, protecting them from protein loss. Protein loss happens when water enters hair strands making them swell up and causing the hair cuticle to misshapen, resulting in rough and frizzy hair.  

Honey contains both emollient and humectant properties! Emollients smooth the hair follicles, adding shine to dull hair. Humectants bond with water molecules, adding moisture to dry strands.

4. DIY Pumpkin Hair Mask for Growth & Luster

This DIY pumpkin hair mask is something I really enjoy making and using every fall/halloween!

I was using up my giant pumpkin to make homemade pumpkin puree and in the process, whipped myself this hair mask! If you know me, you know I LOVE making hair growth stuff for myself so this pumpkin hair mask has hair growth boosting ingredients.

These include pumpkin seed oil & rosemary essential oil.

Pumpkin seed oil is rich in phytosterols, plant compounds that are thought to block hormones and enzymes in the scalp that cause hair loss. It also contains omega fatty acids that deeply moisturize your hair and scalp.

My favorite hair growth essential, rosemary has rosmarinic acid which helps improve hair regrowth. It’s effective in helping promote new hairs (baby hairs) on your scalp as well as preventing loss of existing hair!

I also added pumpkin spice powder because it contains invigorating spices such as nutmeg and allspice that provide a warming sensation on the scalp which increases blood flo that awakens dormant hair follicles to start functioning properly. This stimulates new hair growth.

Pumpkin puree is loaded with nutrients such as Vitamin A, C, E, and the B-complex group that conditions and hydrates hair as well as provides UV protection. This makes it perfect for dry, damaged, or over-processed hair.

Let’s see how to make a DIY pumpkin hair mask perfect for Halloween or fall in general.

What you need

• 1 cup of pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
• 1 tbsp pumpkin seed oil
• 1/2 tbsp agave nectar
• 1 tsp pumpkin spice powder
• 5 drops sweet orange essential oil
• 5 drops rosemary essential oil
• Steamer pot
• High speed blender

Directions

1. Make your own pumpkin puree by washing, chopping and steaming/baking pumpkins then blending them to a smooth puree using a blender. Alternatively, use canned pumpkin puree.
2. Now into a bowl, add the pumpkin puree followed by pumpkin seed oil, agave nectar, pumpkin spice powder and the essential oils.
3. Mix well and your pumpkin hair mask is ready!
4. Massage it onto dry scalp then smear it on your hair length.
5. Tie your hair up into a bun then put on a shower cap.
6. Let the mask work its magic for 30 minutes, then rinse off well and shampoo twice to remove residues.

It works wonders for those with curly and coily hair types. If your hair is frizzy, this hair mask is very hydrating and conditioning!

Let’s look at the benefits of each of the ingredients below:

Avocado is best for dry and damaged hair. It contains good fats such as oleic and linoleic acids that deep condition your hair strands from the root to tips.

Banana also has the same hair silkening effects! It offers hydration and your hair will visibly look and feel soft and shiny!

Aloe vera not only moisturizes hair with its beautifully hydrating succulent gel but also balances the scalp’s pH, reduces dandruff, adds shine and exfoliates the scalp with its active proteolytic enzymes.

Packed with amino and fatty acids, mayonnaise with its smooth thick texture, increases hair softness, hydration, and strength.

Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO) contributes to rapid hair growth! It has more than just JBCO has more than ricinoleic acid that is known to increase hair length and thickness with regular use. It is also loaded with Vitamin B5 and E to provide antioxidant protection and assist with hair growth and radiance.

• 1 egg
• 5 drops rosemary essential oil
• 5 drops peppermint essential oil
• 5 drops lavender essential oil
• Small blender
• Bowl & spoon for mixing

Directions

1. Cut a leaf off an aloe vera plant, wash it and place it in a bowl of water for at least 10 minutes to get rid of the yellow sap which is an irritant. Next, remove the green outer skin of the aloe leaf and extract only the inside transparent fillet. Cut it into pieces.
2. Wash an avocado, cut it in half and scoop out the flesh of one half.
3. Peel and chop half of a banana or use a small banana.
4. Add all the chopped aloe, avocado and banana into a blender.
5. Crack an egg into the blender and pour in the JBCO and mayonnaise.
6. Blend till very smooth.
7. You can even strain the puree to make it extra silky.
8. Pour the contents of the blender into a bowl and mix in the essential oils.
9. Your DIY avocado, aloe and mayonnaise hair mask is ready!
10. Apply it onto dry hair and scalp, put on a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse off and shampoo twice before conditioning.
11. Use this hair mask at least once in 2-4 weeks!
